Can Love Exist in the Workplace

In today’s corporate world, mission and vision statements often paint a picture of a fantastic workplace culture. Yet, the reality can be starkly different. Consider the scenario of a working parent with a young child who finds themselves staying up until 11 pm to meet relentless deadlines. With remote work blurring the boundaries of traditional office hours, a critical question emerges: How are employers ensuring that workers are truly looked after?
At what point does an employer’s duty of care kick in, especially when work spills over into personal time or is taken home?
· Who is looking after the wellbeing of remote workers?
· How do we integrate genuine positive human regard into rigid KPIs, scheduling, and performance targets?
· How can organizations foster safe-to-fail environments and ensure psychological safety at work?
· How can organizations shift from outdated systems to modern, compassionate practices that prioritize employee well-being?
Despite these challenges, I believe love can indeed exist in the workplace. Love is the natural in-between that binds us together—it shows up as respect, understanding, dignity, and open communication. When organizations commit to fostering this kind of environment—starting at the very top—love becomes visible. It transforms employee engagement, boosts productivity, and creates a true sense of belonging and purpose.
Let’s challenge the old norms and step into a future where love isn’t just a buzzword, but a lived reality in every workplace.
